With the forthcoming WTO conference being held in Hong Kong in December, QIS is being proactive in its efforts to assist hotels and businesses in protection methods. Director of Physical Security for QIS, Nicholas Crouch is aware of the unique demand s that such an event poses.
He states "Whilst the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre will be tightly controlled by the police force, the concerns lie with businesses and hotels away from the venue area. These are easy targets and Hong Kong's multitude of glass building frontages will be a tempting target to the more militant of the protestors."
QIS has been planning for the WTO since the start of 2005 and to the end we are able to really make a difference in protecting businesses and hotels that are away from direct police presence. We do of course hope that WTO will be a calm event, but both Seattle and Cancun turned into very violent situations in a very short period of time. There is no reason to say Hong Kong will not follow the same trend.
